Axean Pacific to Develop Software for U.S. Coast Guard
HAWAII COMPANY TAPPED TO DEVELOP SOFTWARE FOR U.S. COAST GUARD PILOT PROJECT
April 2, 2000
Honolulu, Hawaii - Hawaii's newest technology company, Axean Pacific, will be working with the U.S. Coast Guard to develop a software application that will move vessel inspections into the 21st century.
"We believe technology can be used to help our government and businesses run more smoothly and efficiently," says Pamela Rigg, COO, Axean Pacific. "We're here to help them develop the technology to meet their needs."
The U.S. Coast Guard currently uses paper forms and booklets to ensure that vessels and their crews are in compliance with international conventions and U.S. laws. By developing a software application, U.S. Coast Guard vessel inspectors will be able to enter data directly into an electronic 'form' on the screen of a hand held device commonly known as Palm Tops. Data entered will be downloaded or 'beamed' from the device directly into a computer database for processing and reports.
"This pilot project will eliminate the need for inspectors to haul large volumes of paper and reference manuals into the field," adds Rigg. "With Palm Tops, all they take is a little hand held device that does away with all the extra baggage."
But this technology isn't limited to the U.S. Coast Guard. The Axean Pacific application can be customized for a wide range of data entry wherever there is a need to accumulate information from a mobile location, including police departments, hospitals, surveys and inspections.
